Oscar’s Best Dressed

While apparently the Academy Awards broadcast on Sunday night was the least watched show in ages, I thought it was actually quite good. I thought that Sagittarius Jon Stewart was a brilliant host, lightening the sometimes tense mood in the Shrine Auditorium, and I liked how they mixed up the usual presentation of acting awards so that they weren’t bulked at the beginning and the end.

And of course there are the real stars of the night, the clothes. All in all, I though everyone looked pretty darn good. The color of the night was obviously red. I am a bit baffled how nobody’s stylist caught on to this and advised their clients to try something else, but most of the red was bold and chic, even if some of their thunder was swiped out from under them. Here are my picks for best dressed of the night.

#1. MARION COTILLARD. wow. She took my breath away from the moment she stepped onto the red carpet. Her Jean Paul Gaultier cream colored mermaid inspired gown was flawless. And the long necklaces made the look young and chic. As a Libra, she would have wanted something ladylike and feminine and indeed it showed off her body and her smile to perfection. This is my favorite Best Actress Award winner dress since Scorpio Julia Robert’s vintage Valentino.

#2. CATE BLANCHETT. Lots of people did not like this look but I think it was gorgeous. The halter dress is perfect for a Taurus, as it shows off the elegant neck, the part of the body ruled by Taurus, and the floral detailing near the bottom is another Taurus staple. She has amazing red carpet pregnancy style.

#3. PENELOPE CRUZ. In my book, Penelope Cruz never gets it wrong. She always looks glamorous, yet relaxed, like she is having fun. As a Taurus, quality and cut are the utmost priority to her, and she always works with the best designers, like Virgo Karl Lagerfeld, who made this Chanel Haute Couture dress just for her. A lot of other stars who go all out on the red carpet look like their stylist played Barbie with them, but Penelope always owns it.

#4. HEIDI KLUM. This was my favorite red of the night. It was dramatic and chic, but kind of edgy. And like a true Gemini, she played up the jewelry and accessories all the way. Geminis absolutely love accessories, and Heidi wore huge earrings, rings, bangles and a jeweled clutch with this ensemble. And her hair was amazing. (Another Gemini who did accessories perfectly was Best Original Screenplay winner Diablo Cody.)
