8-8-2008: Numerology and the Olympics

August 8, 2008 8:08 PM Beijing, China

Today, the Olympic games commence in Beijing, China. And thank goodness for the Chinese being bold enough to make a big fuss over having the Opening Ceremony be numerologically-inspired. Obviously over there in China they like the number 8, a lot.

In astrology, the number 8 is associated with the planet Saturn. Saturn is the real no-nonsense school marm of the zodiac. You will get exactly what you deserve, exactly what you have earned, no more, no less= this is the MO of Saturn. But it is all about earning and rewarding and as such it has come to be associated with wealth and prosperity. Certainly those who work very hard, are disciplined, and respect authority will achieve status and material prosperity (right?); this is what Saturn, and China, espouses.

And this is likely the tone we can expect from the Olympics this year. Not only does Saturn play an important role with all of those 8′s in the picture (not only in 8-8-08 but also, 8+8+2+0+0+8= 26=8 ) but also because the chart cast for 8:08 PM, shows Saturn sitting directly in opposition to the ascendant. There is definitely going to be a feeling this year that the “worthier” of the opponents won, that the hardest working (though maybe not most impressive) should be rewarded and that judging be done meticulously and protocol be followed zealously. No Jupiterian feats of bravado and courage, but rather safe and predictable will rule the day.

The other player numerologically and astrologically is 7 and the planet associated with it, Neptune. First of all 8+8=16=7. Second of all, the rising sign for the games is Pisces, the planet associated with Neptune and 7, making Neptune the ruler of the chart. As such it’s placement is very important. It is in the 12th house, the house associated with Pisces. This house, planet, sign and number are all associated with illusion, deception, facades, illness, addiction, drugs, mysticism, vagueness and the gray area in general.

So once one is beyond all of the Saturnian formality of the games, there will be a bizarre cloudy feeling, as though nobody is really sure exactly what is going on. Strange illnesses, inexplicable absences or excuses, the feeling that things just seem a little bit off. These things combine to prove why people have been saying that the date is actually “unlucky”.

I wouldn’t say so much that it is un-lucky, just that it has none of the marks of joyous celebration (Jupiter) and competitiveness (Mars) that should be present during the Olympics. Peace-loving Venus is crippled next to stern Saturn (aka. as long as you know your place there will be peace) and feisty Mars is also in Virgo, not exactly the most athletic or competitive sign in the zodiac. The sun in Leo of course insures that there will be the appealing “hero” stories that everyone wants to tune in for but otherwise, expect some baffling failures and ho-hum championships.

In fact the entire chart for the games can be more or less summed up in the following analogy; 1990s figure skating. You how during the winter games when everyone would tune in and hope heroes (Leo) Kristi Yamaguchi or Nancy Kerrigan would finally bang out that gold medal? It was supposed to be beautiful and graceful (Venus) and have the illusion (Neptune) that what they were doing was easy. But all of the pressure and exactitude demanded by the judges (Saturn) would weigh the whole thing down like a ton of bricks (Venus and Saturn conjunct) and it would end up being just plain disappointing. Expect more of the same.

4-4-2008… Beyonce and Jay Z

Jay Z and Beyonce were married Friday in a very numerologically-inspired event. The lovebirds who have been dating for about 5 years, tied the knot on 4.4 because they share 4 birthdays, Beyonce on September 4th and Jay Z on December 4th. So 4.4 suited them perfectly, and of course, 4 plus 4 equals 8, as in 2008. They are also rumored to have the 4.4.8 roman numerals tatooed on their ring fingers.

In numerology the number 4 is associated with stability, reliability and the planet Saturn. It is a number of balance and equilibrium and it lends each of them, and their marriage, a strong work ethic and a commitment to important relationships and security.

The full numerological signature of their marriage is the number 9 (4+4+2+8=18, 1+8=9). Nine is a very spiritual number. Nine represents lofty ideals and goals, and it endows their union with a healthy dose of selfishness and willingness to reach for the stars and attain great things.

Their September 4th and December 4th birthdays put them in a perfect square, that is they were born about 90 days, or 90 degrees apart from each other in a 360 degree wheel. Squares activate excitement but can be challenging. This square is between mutable signs, Virgo and Sagittarius, and indicates that they both are easily adaptable to new situations but may misunderstand one another from time to time.

Beyonce, believe it or not, is rather introverted and reflective, having both her sun (Virgo) and moon (Scorpio) in feminine signs. Jay Z on the other hand is an extroverted man who loves attention and company, with his sun (Sagittarius) and moon (Libra) in masculine signs. What unites them is Beyonces stellium in Libra (five signs!) conjunct his moon/Uranus combo. And both Jay Z and Beyonce have the moon conjunct Uranus in their birthcharts, in Libra and Scorpio respectively. This makes them both trailblazers, people who like to set their own path and be original creatively. Her Mars is also in fiery Leo, which complements his Sagittarius sun.

On April 4th, the sun was in Aries, trine Jay Z’s sun in Sagittarius. Aries can be a good sign for a marriage, especially a marriage between artists as it is a creative sign, and is also a bit selfish, meaning that the couple will be good at looking out for their own interests as a unit. If they were married in the late afternoon or early evening, as is rumored, the moon was in Pisces, conjunct romantic Venus, a good sign for a marriage.

The only red flag would be if they said their “I do’s” between 5:45 pm and 8:30 pm , when the moon was void of course. This means the moon had made its last aspect in Pisces (conjunction to Venus) and was waiting to ingress into Aries, this is a dead zone kind of time when the powerful moon is a bit aimless, and it is not recommended to do anything important when the moon in void of course. Let’s hope they stuck with their theme and got hitched at 4:40!

In any case, congratulations to the numerology-loving newlyweds!!!

September 28: Diva Birthday

”>

No less than 5 bonafide divas celebrate their birthday today. Candles and kisses to the lovely Libra ladies… Mira Sorvino, Hilary Duff, Naomi Watts, Dita Von Teese, and Brigitte Bardot. In numerology 28 reduces down to 10 and then to 1. 9 is the month of September. 9+2+8 reduces down to to 19 which again reduces to 10 and 1. These are powerful, strong numbers. This balances out their personalities becuase Libras, ruled by the feminine planet of Venus, are fair and non-confrontational, but these Libra ladies, with the powerful 1 energy of the sun behind them are not afraid to be selfish, strong and opinionated. This gives them each a good dose of Leo energy, with potent creative potential and true star quality.
