Virgo Goddess Beyonce

beyonce

Virgo Goddess Beyonce is ruling the world, and the airwaves, these days. From the Presidential Inauguration, the Superbowl, her new HBO documentary “Beyonce: Life Is But a Dream”, to numerous magazine covers (including VOGUE March 2013), and her upcoming world tour, this is truly Beyonce’s moment at the apex.

Which is not very surprising when considering that Jupiter, the planet of good luck and abundance, is crossing through Gemini until June 2013, and it is a lucky career moment for all Virgos. With Jupiter in Virgo’s career house- bigger is better and more is more, so all Virgos should take advantage of the ample work opportunities lining up for them right now. (In June, Jupiter slides into Cancer which will bless Libra with these career benefits- so Libras take note, you have something to look forward to!)

In her many interviews Beyonce has been highlighting Virgos’ notorious perfectionism and attention to detail: “I watch my performances, and I wish I could just enjoy them, but I see the light that was late. I see, ‘Oh God, that hair did not work.’ Or ‘I should never do that again.’ I try to perfect myself. I want to grow, and I’m always eager for new information.” Virgos are meticulous information gatherers and craftsmen, but are not necessarily comfortable in the spotlight.

In astrology, however, our rising sign influences our outer personality and presentation and Beyonce has the sign of the dramatic showman, Leo, on her ascendant. In her early career, Beyonce divorced herself from her flashy outer persona (“Sasha Fierce”), but as an adult has assimilated her Leo and Virgo qualities. Scorpio, the sign of determination, sexuality and transformation is her moon sign- giving her tremendous emotional depth and insight, which is the bread and butter of her song writing and creative talent.

In addition to her Virgo/Scorpio/Leo astrological signature, a wealth of Pisces themes, Virgo’s opposite sign, emerge as well. As I often discuss in my pieces, opposite signs are really a pair- like two sides of the same coin. And successful people often personify their opposite sign as much as their sun sign. Beyonce epitomizes the Virgo/Pisces polarity with both her dedication and professionalism (Virgo), and also her deep spiritual underpinnings (Pisces).

In her documentary, with the very Pisces subtitle “Life Is But a Dream”, she credits the prayers of her mother and Grandmother with her success, and repeatedly affirms her faith in God for steering her path and her choices. In an especially beautiful scene, filmed by her Sagittarius husband Jay Z, she sits on a boat with light illuminating her perfectly, waxing about the beauty of life and simplicity of love and joy in the moment- before jumping overboard declaring “Life is but a dream”. She also discusses how her biggest transformation (Scorpio) has been embracing her identity as an artist (Pisces) which has made her feel more comfortable insisting on her vision and not worrying that people would think she is “too picky” (Virgo).

The artistic and soulful inspiration of Pisces must be channeled through the detailed hard work of Virgo, while Virgos meticulous craftsmanship must be enlivened and inspired by creative Pisces, and with Beyonce we see the perfect exemplification of this polarity.

Sagittarius Fashion Idol: Gianni Versace

December 2, 1946 Reggio di Calabria, Italty noon* (time unknown)

The life and death of Sagittarius legend Gianni Versace remains one of the most colorful tales of modern fashion history. Born in Italy in 1946, Gianni got his first taste for design assisting his mother with embroidering her gowns. At the age of 25 he decided to make fashion his career and moved to Milan to commence an apprenticeship. By 1975 he had opened his own label and by 1979 he had befriended influential fashion photographer, Taurus Richard Avedon. Life just fell perfectly into place for young Gianni Versace.

This is often the case with Sagittarius men. They are happy, confident, outspoken, proactive, thoughtful and have a very healthy self-image. They imagine how they want their life to be, they will it into happening, and then they buckle down and enjoy the ride. They can’t really help it, having an extraordinary life full of adventure is their birthright. You see, Sagittarius is the sign of royalty. And as Gianni himself once said, “In the past, people were born royal. Nowadays, royalty comes from what you do.” It was his journey to make beautiful things and meet beautiful, glamorous people and he threw himself in 100%.

Gianni’s royalty of spirit was demonstrated not only by becoming the best, the greatest, in his field, but by having the common touch with people; their respect as well as their admiration. This talent came from his watery, empathetic Pisces moon. Gianni’s trick was that he related to people on a human level. Pisces moon people do not have a shield up, they wear their heart on their sleeve, and are loving and kind and receptive to just about every soul who crosses their path. This type of sincerity can win you a lot of friends in the fickle, manipulative and hollow world of celebrity and high fashion. Especially when coupled with a fun-loving Sagittarius sun.

Fashion-wise, the hallmark of Sagittarius is bright colors, bells and whistles, short hemlines, big busts, and all the glitter and glamour you can throw into one package (think of Sagittarian women like Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith). Saggs favor clothes that can be a bit campy and costumey, so it is no surprise that during his career Gianni designed clothes for many entertainers and shows, even a few Hollywood movies. Sometimes, a more refined Sagg fashion energy throws over the bells and whistles but usually keeps the short hemlines and wild colors. And boy did Gianni Versace love short hemlines and wild colors. His body-hugging, electrifying, barely there outfits caused a sensation in the fashion industry from the very beginning. And he desinged some of the single most famous, and shocking, dresses of the past quarter century, including Elizabeth Hurley’s safety-pin dress.

Having the courage and perserverence to throw himself into his passion head-first came from having three planets (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury) conjunct in determined, tough and focued Scorpio. Scorpio is the sign of sex, and this placement also influenced the overt (Sagg) sexuality (Scorpio) of his designs. His other important conjunction, Pluto and Saturn in Leo, has a decidedly darker flavor. Pluto is the planet of power, Saturn the planet of difficulty and Leo the sign of fame. This placement indactes lasting power and influence, but also hardship associated with this. Indeed, he was famously murdered outside his home in Miami Beach, Florida by Virgo serial killer Andrew Cunanan on July 15, 1997 at the age of 50. The Versace label is now run by his brother, fellow Sagittarius, Santo, mostly owned by his Cancer niece Allegra, and designed by his Taurus sister Donatella. Though his murder was shocking and senseless, certainly any Sagg worth their salt would rather go out with a bang at the peak of their career than decay into old age.

As a testament to how truly beloved he was, more than 2,000 mourners came to his funeral to pay their last respects to such a colorful and caring man. Cancer Princess Diana famously comforted Aries Elton John in the 1st pew. During his time at the top of the fashion world, he had not only created an archtypal, modern, sexy style which will forever be associated with him, but also presided over a court of glamorous supermodels who adored him. The last great age of the supermodel in the late 1980s and early 1990s, coincided with Versace’s reign in fashion, and epitomized the bold, brazen, bombshell joie de vivre that he celebrated. Taurus Linda Evangelista, Gemini Naomi Campbell, Virgo Claudia Schiffer, Capricorn Christy Turlington, and Pisces Cindy Crawford were among the group of goddesses who never had a bad word to say about Gianni. The ethos and spirit of the high living, glam Versace era was so flash that it took nothing short of the dark, repressed grunge movement in culture and fashion to overthrow it.

What’s in a name?

Gorgeous Taurus actress Uma Thurman gave birth to her third child, a daughter, on July 15, 2012 and her fans have anxiously been awaiting news of the baby’s name ever since. It was announced this week that the little girl is Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Thurman-Busson, affectionately known to her friends and family as “Luna”. Anyone familiar with astrology will know that another name for the moon is Luna, and the moon is the celestial body that rules the sign of Cancer. Uma is certainly aware of this fact, as she has grown up in a Buddhist household, where knowledge of and belief in astrology is ingrained. Her eldest daughter, who is also a Cancer, is named Maya, another deeply spiritual name which references “the world of illusion” in which we dwell, only a manifestation and creation of the true spiritual world. Her son’s name is Levon, meaning “lion”.

Her fiance, Swiss businessman Arki Busson, is an Aquarius. And her ex-husband, Ethan Hawke, is a Scorpio. She clearly likes very strong, independent and original men. Her own sign of Taurus is gracious, determined and loving. Taurus is also ruled by Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. How cosmically fitting that Uma’s first acting role was as Venus in “The Adventure’s of Baron Munchausen”.

Aries: Bronze Medal for Comedy

A while back I wrote one of my personal favorite posts, about how Sagittarius and Scorpio are (in my humble opinion) the most talented comedians. A list of talented comedians for these signs and my impressions of WHY they are so good at  this can be found in the post here. It occurred to me recently that a bronze medal should be awarded in this category- to Aries.

The new wave of comedy of the past decade has been spearheaded by Aries comedians. Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann and Seth Rogen are all Aries. Their frequent collaborators, Judd Apatow (also Mann’s husband) and Jonah Hill are both Sagittarius. Other Aries comedians include, Alec Baldwin, Rob McElhenney, Alyson Hannigan, Eddie Murphy, Kate Hudson, Jane Leeves, Tim Curry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, David Letterman, Martin Short, Amy Sedaris, Conan O’Brien, Jon Cryer, Catherine Keener, and Rosie O’Donnell.

The Aries form of comedy is refreshingly un-self-conscious. Aries are natural, direct and independent. Rather than intellectually high minded Sagittarians (hello Jon Stewart and Woody Allen), and personally revealing Scorpio (paging Kathy Griffin and Tracy Morgan), Aries are simply glad to make fun of themselves and ridiculous situations to get a laugh. They are also especially talented at gross-out humor, Aries ruling the most basic human needs and necessities. Their talent is in making ANY situation (aka, the everyday situation) extremely funny and for that we owe them a debt of gratitude- and a comedy bronze medal.

When will they marry?

Fans the world over are brimming with excitement that Leo Justin Theroux will make Aquarius Jennifer Aniston his bride. I discussed the fabulous compatibility of these two here. But right now I am much more interested in the pressing question of WHEN will this event take place?!

The 10th or 11th of November would be the ideal time. This is the exact mid-point between Justin’s August 10th birthday and Jennifer February 11th birthday, at 20 degrees Scorpio. I prefer the 11th to the 10th but the 10th is a Saturday and that is the most popular day to wed. But these two will do things their OWN way so I doubt they would be put off by a Sunday wedding and in this case I would advise it.

Wedding dates are extremely important and set the whole tone for one’s marriage! Take for example Jennifer’s marriage to Sagittarius Brad Pitt on July 29, 2000. The sun in Leo was a clear foreshadowing of the uber-fame that would dominate their lives as a couple.

A Scorpio wedding date for Jen and Justin in November would give them a greater sense of privacy and intimacy in their relationship. But the lovely Libra moon on the 10th and 11th ensures companionship, sociability, harmony and balance. The Scorpio wedding would also indicate a small gathering of 40 or so close friends, very intimate and loving, much like the social world that the couple enjoys now.

Six months later, when the sun reaching the opposite point, at 20 degrees Taurus in early May, would also be a wonderful time for them to tie the knot. Whenever it is that they decide to have their romantic, private nuptials, they should heed the golden rule of astrological wedding planning- make sure that the emotional moon’s last aspect is a good one! And the emotions will flow smoothly…

Hopefully Jennifer is taking note of all of this, as according to the new issue of US WEEKLY, “Jen is really into astrology.”
